Basmala, before verse 1:

  1. Verse 1:

Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent -

    Report an error, Verse 1
  2. Verse 2:

[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving -

    Report an error, Verse 2
  3. Verse 3:

[And] who created seven heavens in layers.note 1712 You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?

    Notes, Verse 3

[1712] i.e., one covering or fitting over the other.

    Report an error, Verse 3
  4. Verse 4:

Then return [your] vision twice again.note 1713 [Your] vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued.

    Notes, Verse 4

    [1713] i.e., repeatedly.

    Report an error, Verse 4
  5. Verse 5:

And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with lamps [i.e., stars] and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devilsnote 1714 and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

    Notes, Verse 5

[1714] Thereby driving them from the heavens and preventing them from eavesdropping. See 72:8-9.

    Report an error, Verse 7
  8. Verse 8:

    Report an error, Verse 8
  9. Verse 9:

They will say, "Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allāh has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.'"

    Report an error, Verse 9
  10. Verse 10:

And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze."

    Report an error, Verse 10
  11. Verse 11:

And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienationnote 1715 for the companions of the Blaze.

    Notes, Verse 11

[1715] From all good and from Allāh's mercy.

    Report an error, Verse 11
  12. Verse 12:

Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward.

    Report an error, Verse 12
  13. Page 563

    Verse 13:

Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.

Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision? But they have persisted in insolence and aversion.

    Report an error, Verse 21
  22. Verse 22:
