Al-'Adiyat

Basmala, before verse 1: بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. Verse 1:

   وَٱلْعَـٰدِيَـٰتِ ضَبْحًا1

   By the racers, panting,^{note 1967}

   Notes, Verse 1

   [1967] i.e., the horses bearing riders as they race to attack the enemy.

2. Verse 2:

   فَٱلْمُورِيَـٰتِ قَدْحًا2

   And the producers of sparks [when] striking^{note 1968}

   Notes, Verse 2

   [1968] Their hoofs while galloping over rocky terrain.

3. Verse 3:

   فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًا3

   And the chargers at dawn,^{note 1969}

   Notes, Verse 3

   [1969] While the enemy is unaware.

4. Verse 4:

   فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا4

   Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,

5. Verse 5:

   فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا5

   Arriving thereby in the center^{note 1970} collectively,

   [1970] i.e., penetrating into the enemy ranks during a surprise attack.

6. Verse 6:

   إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌ6

   Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.

7. Verse 7:

   وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ7

   And indeed, he is to that a witness.^{note 1971}

   [1971] Through his speech and his actions.

8. Verse 8:

   وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ8

   And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.

9. Verse 9:

   ۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ9

   But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered

    Verse 10:

    وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ10

    And that within the breasts is obtained,^{note 1972}

    [1972] i.e., when all secrets are made known.

11. Verse 11:

    إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ11

    Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Aware.^{note 1973}
