Az-Zalzalah

Basmala, before verse 1: بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. Verse 1:

   إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا1

   When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake

2. Verse 2:

   وَأَخْرَجَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَثْقَالَهَا2

   And the earth discharges its burdens^{note 1962}

3. Verse 3:

   وَقَالَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا لَهَا3

   And man says,^{note 1963} "What is [wrong] with it?" -

4. Verse 4:

   يَوْمَئِذٍ تُحَدِّثُ أَخْبَارَهَا4

   That Day, it will report its news

5. Verse 5:

   بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوْحَىٰ لَهَا5

   Because your Lord has inspired [i.e., commanded] it.

6. Verse 6:

   يَوْمَئِذٍ يَصْدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشْتَاتًا لِّيُرَوْا۟ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ6

   That Day, the people will depart^{note 1964} separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds.

   [1964] From the place of Judgement to their final abode. Another interpretation is "emerge separately" (from the graves) .

7. Verse 7:

   فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُۥ7

   So whoever does an atom's weight^{note 1965} of good will see it,

8. Verse 8:

   وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُۥ8

   And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.
