At-Takathur

Basmala, before verse 1: بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. Verse 1:

   أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ1

   Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

   Report an error, Verse 1
2. Verse 2:

   حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ2

   Until you visit the graveyards.^{note 1980}

   [1980] i.e., remain in them temporarily, meaning until the Day of Resurrection.

3. Verse 3:

   كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ3

   No! You are going to know.

4. Verse 4:

   ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ4

   Then, no! You are going to know.

   Report an error, Verse 4
5. Verse 5:

   كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ5

   No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...^{note 1981}

   [1981] The conclusion of this verse is estimated to be "...you would not have been distracted from preparing for the Hereafter."

6. Verse 6:

   لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ6

   You will surely see the Hellfire.

7. Verse 7:

   ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ7

   Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.^{note 1982}

   [1982] i.e., with actual eyesight.

8. Verse 8:

   ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ8

   Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.^{note 1983}

   [1983] i.e., the comforts of worldly life and whether you were grateful to Allāh for His blessings.
