Basmala, before verse 1: بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. Verse 1:

   لِإِيلَـٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ1

   For the accustomed security of the Quraysh^{note 1996} -

   Notes, Verse 1

   [1996] i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed.

2. Verse 2:

   إِۦلَـٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ2

   Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer^{note 1997} -

   [1997] i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer.

3. Verse 3:

   فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ3

   Let them worship the Lord of this House,^{note 1998}

   [1998] i.e., the Kaʿbah.

4. Verse 4:

   ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ4

   Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
