Al-Humazah

Basmala, before verse 1: بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. Verse 1:

   وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ1

   Woe to every scorner and mocker

   Report an error, Verse 1
2. Verse 2:

   ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ2

   Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.^{note 1987}

   [1987] Rather than spending in the way of Allāh.

3. Verse 3:

   يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ3

   He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.

   Report an error, Verse 3
4. Verse 4:

   كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ4

   No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.^{note 1988}

   Notes, Verse 4

   [1988] i.e., Hellfire, which crushes and destroys all that enters it.

5. Verse 5:

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ5

   And what can make you know what is the Crusher?

6. Verse 6:

   نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ6

   It is the fire of Allāh, [eternally] fueled,

7. Verse 7:

   ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ7

   Which mounts directed at the hearts.^{note 1989}

   [1989] Covering them and penetrating them.

8. Verse 8:

   إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ8

   Indeed, it [i.e., Hellfire] will be closed down upon them

9. Verse 9:

   فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ9

   In extended columns.^{note 1990}

   [1990] Interpreted to be either columns of fire or columns of iron to which are chained the inmates of Hell.
